Privacy Policy

Summary: Ordinance Seeker collects only what is necessary to run your account and process payments. We never sell your personal information or share it with third parties beyond what is required to operate the service.
Who We Are
Ordinance Seeker is owned and operated by JT Software LLC, a Utah limited liability company ("we," "us," or "our"). This policy explains how JT Software LLC handles your information when you use the Ordinance Seeker extension and website.
What This Extension Does
Ordinance Seeker is a Chrome extension that helps members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints find ancestors and descendants in their FamilySearch family tree who have temple ordinances ready to be performed. It does this by automatically navigating and scanning your FamilySearch pedigree tree. A paid subscription is required to use the extension.
Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information — When you create an Ordinance Seeker account, we collect your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your Google display name and profile photo. This is used solely to identify your account and send subscription-related emails.
- FamilySearch account identifier — A normalized version of your FamilySearch display name, used to keep your searches separate from other FamilySearch accounts. This identifier is stored in your account's search data in Firebase Firestore.
- Tree search results — Person IDs, names, lifespan dates, profile URLs, and which temple ordinance types were ready (for example Baptism or Sealing to Parents) for people found with ordinances ready to reserve. This is the data you explicitly save by starting a search. Each search also stores its name count and its progress (which families have already been checked) so it can be continued later.
- Information read from FamilySearch while searching — To decide whether a person has ordinances you can actually reserve, the extension uses your existing FamilySearch sign-in to request the same ordinance status and possible-duplicate information that FamilySearch shows when you click a temple icon, along with your FamilySearch user ID, which FamilySearch requires for that request. It also reads which marriages each person has, so a name can be saved under the person whose tree link opens that family card. The Recheck Search option reads the same information again for names already in a search. Only the ordinance types that are ready are saved; your FamilySearch user ID and the rest of this information are not stored.
- Usage information — When you use the extension while signed in, it records the dates you first and last used it, how many days you have used it, the extension version, and which FamilySearch account identifiers you used it with. This is sent at most once a day per FamilySearch account and is used only to support you and improve the extension. It does not include any names or other information from your family tree.
- Subscription status — Your current plan, subscription expiration date, and Stripe customer ID are stored in Firestore to verify your access to the extension.
The extension does not collect your FamilySearch password, your payment card details, your browsing history, or any information from websites other than FamilySearch.
How Your Data Is Stored
- Firebase Firestore (cloud) — All saved search results, subscription records, and usage information are stored in Google Firebase Firestore and synced across your devices. Saved searches are stored under the FamilySearch account they were made with, and subscription and usage records under your Ordinance Seeker account. They are not accessible to other users.
- Chrome local storage — A small amount of per-device settings and status (such as dark mode, your last selected search, page size, the FamilySearch account last detected, and whether a search is running or being rechecked) are stored locally. No search results are stored locally.
Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your payment card details — all payment information is handled directly by Stripe and governed by their privacy policy. We receive only a confirmation that a payment succeeded and the resulting subscription dates.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We share data only with the following third-party services necessary to operate Ordinance Seeker:
Data Retention and Deletion
- You can delete individual names or entire searches at any time from within the extension (Open Saved Searches). Deletions sync to all your devices immediately.
- You can permanently delete your Ordinance Seeker account directly from the Account page. This removes your account from Firebase Authentication, cancels any active Stripe subscription, and deletes your subscription and usage information.
- Saved searches are tied to your FamilySearch account rather than your Ordinance Seeker login, because more than one person may use the same FamilySearch account. For that reason, deleting your Ordinance Seeker account or cancelling your subscription does not delete them. Anyone signed in to that FamilySearch account can delete them at any time in Open Saved Searches.
- Uninstalling the extension removes locally stored preferences from your device. Your saved searches remain in the cloud until they are deleted in Open Saved Searches.
- If you need assistance with account deletion, you can also contact us at ordinanceseeker@gmail.com.
Permissions Explained
The extension requests only the permissions necessary for it to function:
- activeTab / tabs — To identify and communicate with open FamilySearch tabs.
- scripting — To run the tree-scanning script on FamilySearch pages, including when you use Recheck Search.
- storage / unlimitedStorage — To store per-device UI preferences locally.
- offscreen — To run a hidden background page used for Google sign-in. No content is displayed to the user.
- familysearch.org host permission — The extension only runs on FamilySearch pages and does not read any other websites.
Children's Privacy
This extension is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy is updated, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be changed. Continued use of the extension after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
